I reached out to several different groups of people that are a part of my life to look for people who would benefit from some free blog design and advice and I’ve chosen a winner. I’ve started working on a blog/website design for a grandmother of 5 who because of health reasons is pretty much confined to her house and needs a creative outlet and a means of connecting with people. Blogging is a way for her to do that. Once we get her design up and ready I’ll be sure to link to her site. Be sure to [...]
My husband is not an overly emotional guy. And I don’t need him to be. He is very funny and fun to be with. He’s got a great sense of humor, and he’s still the first person I call when I have good news to share, or need some support in a bad time. We’ve been together for 20 years and 17 years ago today he proposed to me and he wasn’t even in the apartment when he did it.
At the time, he was working nights, and I was working days. So, when I got home from work, [...]
This has been such an exciting weekend for me.
First: My favorite NFL team, the Steelers are here in Texas preparing to play in their 8th Super Bowl, Super Bowl 45. although we had planned on making the drive to Dallas, that fell through, but we are carrying on the excitement here at home, planning a delicious spread of food.
chili steak hot wing dip chips & queso deviled eggs chili cheese dip
All that food, and there’s only 3 of us. Food is a huge part of the super bowl though, isn’t it?
Second: After the recent [...]
handmade word cloud
My twittery friend @sparks_austin tweeted me to check out Tagxedo this morning. She said it was a silvercloud based wordle. Being the geek I am I had to check it out right away. So, I loaded up the interface with all the handmade goodness I could and this is what it gave me. Think I’ll print it out and hang it up in the craft room for some constant inspiration. check it out here: http://www.tagxedo.com/app.html
That time of the year when the crafty get craftier. It all starts with Halloween. There’s an easy way to spot which kids have the crafty moms at home. No store bought costumes allowed on my kids aside from some years when I let my darling son wear his spiderman and batman costumes. Other than that, it’s “tell mommy what you want to be and I’ll make it for you.” These days however, with one lovely child away at college and the other a full fledged teenage boy, I don’t much get to make kid sized Halloween costumes, instead, [...]

Truer words were never spoken…
I’ll tell you what I learned in the craft room this week. I know that I do not enjoy making purses, but I do enjoy making bags.
Not so much this…

See what I mean. Do what you love. And do it well. Have a great [...]
So, I finally jumped in with both feet. I have secretly wanted to learn to quilt for YEARS. Literally, years. I used to watch some HORRible quilting show on tv. The host was beyond bad, the dialogue was painful to listen to, but the quilts were so amazing that I put up with the show. And I remember thinking, I could never do that. I’m not precise enough.
Well, thanks to my recent “Home Ec Class”, I now have the confidence and the tools necessary to put together a neat, well done, piece of handmade goodness.
Last night, I [...]
This time the project was to do a leather and canvas weekender bag. Whoa, hold on there…leather? What if I mess up? I’ll never forgive myself for wasting such expensive stuff as leather! Better use some cheap remnants first. Right? That’s what I thought.
So, off to the remnant bin to see what we can find. How about this fun juicy oversize modern floral outdoor canvas for the top, and in place of the leather….some kind of treated heavy cotton or something. OK, off we go.
I should have timed myself to see how long this actually took me. [...]
Now we’re really cooking. I decided to take on another sewing project from my Home Ec class today. This time, it’s a reversible table runner. Now, while I really liked the example that was shown, my plans changed when I got to the fabric store. There it was, the cutest Halloween fabric I have EVER seen. It’s gray and creepy and cute and pink all at once! It’s called “the Ghastlies” and I was immediately smitten with it. Then some owls caught my eye. I didn’t even realize at first it was a Christmas print, but in deed it [...]
Have I mentioned how much I love the Home Ec Class I’ve been taking. It’s almost over and I’m just getting going on the projects. I’m jumping around a bit, but I was never one to follow orders
So, there’s this very cute and very sweet guy at my work. He’s just adorable and he very politely always shows an interest in whatever crafty goodness I bring in to work. So, the other day he told me that his cousin just had a baby girl and asked me if I would make him a gift for the little [...]
